2008-2011 BMW 5-Series, 7-Series, X5 And X6: Recall Alert

2011 BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo M Sport Package

2011 BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo M Sport Package

BMW is conducting a voluntary safety recall of certain model year 2008-2011 5-Series, 5-Series Gran Turismo, 7-Series, X5, and X6 vehicles equipped with eight- or twelve-cylinder turbocharged engines for a faulty electric auxiliary water pump.

A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site lists the potential number of affected vehicles at 32,084. Documents from BMW include the following breakdown of affected vehicles: 2,606 5-Series, 1,787 5-Series Gran Turismo, 18,195 7-Series (including Alpina B7), 4,309 X5 and 5,187 X6.

At issue is the circuit board for the electric auxiliary water pump, which, under certain conditions, can overheat. This could lead to a smoldering of the pump or a fire in the engine compartment or the vehicle.

The automaker says it has not received any reports, nor is it aware of, any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

BMW will notify owners of affected vehicles and dealers will replace the auxiliary water pump free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during November 2011.

In the meantime, owners of 2008-2011 BMW 5-Series, 5-Series Gran Turismo, 7-Series, X5 and X6 models with questions or concerns may contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417.

Alternatively, owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to http://www.safercar.gov. Refer to the NHTSA Campaign ID No. 11V521000.

Wells Ent. Recalls 'Blue Bunny Personals' Ice Cream On Wheat Allergy Fears

Iowa-based Wells Enterprises Inc. said Friday it is voluntarily recalling a limited number of packages of its Blue Bunny Personals ice cream as it was wrongly packed and contains undeclared wheat, which can put to risk consumers who are allergic to wheat and/or gluten.

The recalled products were distributed in 5.5 fluid ounce Personals cartons, with 'Best Used By' date of January 10, 2012 and Lot Number 10009.

The company said that on a limited number of packages, the lid describes the product as Blue Bunny Super Chunky Cookie Dough ice cream, and the carton portion of the package explains the product as Blue Bunny Peanut Butter Panic ice cream.

The product inside the carton is Super Chunky Cookie Dough, which contains wheat, but the ingredient statement on the carton fails to declare that.

Wells Enterprises said until date no adverse reactions have been brought to its notice.

The affected product was shipped to the states of Kansas, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Dakota, Tennessee, Florida, Wisconsin, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Massachusetts, and Texas.

Wells Enterprises realized the packaging error after a store reported that the lid and cup were for different products.

The allergy alert and recall relates only to the above mentioned mispackaged Blue Bunny ice cream, and no other Blue Bunny ice cream products are affected.

Wheat allergy is one of the top 8 food allergies in the US, and reactions pertain to the skin, mouth, lungs, and even the GI tract. Symptoms of wheat allergy can include rash, wheezing, lip swelling, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Gluten, meanwhile, is a protein composite found in foods processed from wheat and related grain species, including barley and rye. It gives elasticity to dough, helping it to rise and to keep its shape, and often a chewy texture.

Gluten sensitivity belongs to a spectrum of disorders in which gluten has an adverse effect on the body. It can be defined as a non-allergic and non-autoimmune condition in which the consumption of gluten can lead to symptoms similar to those observed in coeliac disease or wheat allergy.

Symptoms of gluten sensitivity include bloating, abdominal discomfort, pain or diarrhea. It can also result in extra-intestinal symptoms including migraines, lethargy, attention-deficit disorder and hyperactivity, schizophrenia, muscular disturbances, and joint pain.

300,000 doses of flu vaccine Preflucel withdrawn in alert over side-effects¿ | Mail Online

A flu vaccine has been recalled from thousands of surgeries and pharmacies across Europe amid fears it is making people ill.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a warning over Preflucel, a popular influenza vaccine.

Around 300,000 doses of the drug are to be immediately withdrawn following a warning from health bosses that the most recent batch, issued last month, is causing side-effects.

A high percentage of those vaccinated with Preflucel have reported muscle pain and headaches.

Alternative products will now be made available to prevent any shortages.

Newbury-based Baxter Healthcare, which manufacturers the drug, approved for use in March said that patients with concerns should contact their GP.

A statement read: 'There has been a higher than expected reporting of adverse reactions after administration of vaccines from this batch.

'Any stock should be quarantined and returned via the normal channels.

'No further Preflucel of any batch should be administered at this time.'

In Scotland 2,500 vaccines have been recalled and Preflucel will not be issued until further notice.

In response the Scottish Government has ordered more than 1.1million doses of other flu drugs.

Despite fears a spokesperson urged people not to panic: 'This recall does not affect the flu vaccination programme, for which over 1.1 million doses of other flu vaccines have been ordered.

'Individuals who have been vaccinated with Preflucel should not be concerned.

'Most of the side affects are those usually associated with flu vaccines - they have started shortly after the vaccination and have been mild and short lived.

'The vaccines is being recalled because these side affects have been reported more frequently with this specific batch.'

It was labelled as suitable for patients with allergies because it does not contain egg and is expected to provide up to 80 per cent protection against influenza.

A spokesperson said the recall was a 'precautionary measure' due to reports of adverse reactions.

Preflucel is one of 13 different flu vaccines being used to protect people against the winter virus.

GM recalls 36,000 crossovers over tire pressure - Reuters -

General Motors Co is recalling more than 36,000 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain small crossovers worldwide to repair the tire pressure monitoring system, the U.S. automaker said on Wednesday.

The recall affects cars built for the 2012 model year. GM said the system may fail to alert to the driver when a vehicle's tire pressure falls below federal standards.

Under-inflated tires can result in tire overloading and overheating, which could lead to a blowout and possible crash, GM said in a statement. Premature wear of tires can also lead to poor handling and fuel economy.

Nearly 34,000 of the recalled vehicles are in the United States. The rest are in Canada, Mexico and six countries in the Middle East. The vehicles were built from July 18 through Sept. 6 of this year, according to a notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

The system should set off a warning light when the tire pressure is 25 percent below the recommended cold tire pressure levels.

But in the affected vehicles, the warning light does not turn on until tire pressure is more than 25 percent below recommended levels.

Harley-Davidson to recall over 300,000 motorcycles | Reuters

(Reuters) - Harley-Davidson Inc said it would recall about 308,474 motorcycles in the United States and overseas due to problems with the rear brake light switch.

The motorcycle maker is recalling some 2009-2012 Touring and Trike models, saying the rear brake light switch may be exposed to excessive heat from the exhaust system.

The excessive heat may cause the switch to not activate the brake lamp or activate the brake lamp when no brake is applied. It may also cause a fluid leak at the brake light switch, Harley-Davidson said in notice to the National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration.

The company is recalling about 250,000 units in the United States and 50,000 outside.

It expects to record a cost of $10-$12 million in the fourth quarter.

Consumer Alert - Undeclared Sulfites In Dried Dates

Contact:
Consumer:
646-388-3032

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 19, 2011 - New York State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel Aubertine today alerted consumers that Domega NY International Co. LTD, located at 47-57 Bridgewater St. in Brooklyn, NY, is recalling Dried Dates due to the presence of undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product.

The recalled Dried Dates are packaged in a 12 oz. (340 gram), plastic bag. There is no apparent production code on the package but a UPC code of 6-868978-724670 can be found on the back of the package. The product was distributed nationwide and is a product of China.

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites which were not declared on the label.
