Amazon warns customers of recall notice on all Alli Weight Loss products

Amazon and other retailers across the United States and Puerto Rico are sending out emails to alert customers that “all alli weight loss products” are being recalled. According to a statement released from the company GSK states, “that some packages of the product were tampered with and may contain product that is not authentic a lli.”



As of right now GSK is conducting an investigation and is working with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on this retailer level recall.



“Safety is our first priority and we are asking retailers and pharmacies to remove all alli® from their shelves immediately,” said Colin Mackenzie, President Consumer Healthcare North America. “We have posted a Consumer Alert on our website, www.myalli.com, and issued a News Release with information and photographs to help consumers determine if their alli® is authentic.”



Consumers who have product they are unsure or concerned about should not use it. Instead, they should call GSK promptly at 800-671-2554, and a representative will provide further instructions. If they have consumed questionable product, they should also contact their healthcare providers.



“We are committed to finding out what happened and to doing everything possible to prevent future issues with alli,” said Mackenzie. “We regret any inconvenience caused by this retailer recall.”

Dried Fruit Under Food Recall for Salmonella


food recallOregon Freeze-Dry Inc, based in Albany, OR, has issued a food recall for Kirkland Signature dried fruits, which was sold exclusively through Costo Wholesale Stores, after reports that the fruit could be contaminated with salmonella.
The company said that it has received no reports of any consumers becoming ill due to salmonella poisoning, so the food recall is a precautionary measure.
Oregon Freeze-Dry’s food recall covers 59,780 cases of Kirkland Signature Real Sliced Fruit. The food recall officially began on March 8th, after the company received reports that the dried fruit could potentially be contaminated with salmonella. Customers who may have purchased the product will be contacted by phone and US mail. Cases of the fruit will feature a sell-by date between Feb. 14, 2015 to March 11, 2015.
The dried fruit was distributed to the following states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Puerto Rico.
Costco has also said that customers who purchased the fruit can return it to their local Costco store for a refund.
Salmonella is one of the most common food-borne illnesses, and in healthy adults can last between 4 and 7 days. Most cases clear up on their own without treatment, but salmonella infections can be serious or fatal in young children, elderly adults, or people with compromised immune systems.

Britax is recalling about 216,000 strollers over an amputation risk.
According to the recall notice, pressing the release button while pulling on the release strap has led to eight injuries, including broken fingers and amputated fingertips.
The affected models include the B-Agile, B-Agile Double and the Bob Motion. They were sold between May 2011 and June 2013. 
Customers should call 866-204-1665 for a free repair kit.

Recall Alert: Playtex Pacifier Holder Clips

We have a recall notice for all you parents out there. Playtex has recalled their pacifier holder clips due to a choking hazard.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the clips can crack and a small part can break off.

The pacifier holder was sold in green with a monkey figure, pink with a flower, and blue with a tow truck. Major retailers such as Walmart, Target and Burlington Coat Factory sold the clips.

If you have bought the clips, retailers urge you to stop using them immediately. As off now, there have been close to a hundred reports of the holder cracking or breaking, but no reported injuries.  According to local health officials,  infants and young children naturally want put things in their mouth and small objects that you normally wouldn't notice are key targets for them to choke on. That's why officials want parents to always be aware.

"Usually age three and above, that's when their more exploratory; they put things in their mouth, and anything that is larger than the airways can be a potential obstruction. So it's important to note those things, and also read the warning labels," said Lloyd White, Administrator at the Marion County Health Department.

After the deaths of two children, Angelcare issues a massive recall for 600,000 of its Movement and Sound Baby Monitors.

The company says the cord attached to the baby monitors sensor pad is placed under the crib mattress, which poses a strangulation risk if the child pulls the cord into the crib and it becomes wrapped around the neck.

Certain Cedar brand Tahina products may contain Salmonella bacteria


Ottawa, August 31, 2013 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Phoenicia Group Inc. are warning the public, food service establishments, and retailers, not to consume, serve, use, or sell the Tahini products described below because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The following Tahini products, sold commencing February 1, 2013 with no lot code indicated on the package, are affected by this alert. This alert does not include Cedar brand Tahini products where a lot code appears on the package.
Some of the affected products were sold in bulk and may have been repacked at retail.  Consumers who cannot determine the original product identity are advised to check with their retailer to determine if they have one of the affected products.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
The distributor, Phoenicia Group Inc., St-Laurent, Quebec, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

Ottawa, September 17, 2013 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Gort’s Gouda Cheese Farm (EST 4478) are warning the public not to consume cheese products described below because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
This recall is the result of an ongoing food safety investigation initiated as a result of a recent outbreak investigation. There may be recalls of additional products as the investigation at this facility continues.
All sizes of the raw milk cheeses listed below are affected by this recall.
These affected products were sold at the manufacturer's outlet, at retail stores in Alberta and British Columbia, and through internet sale from May 27 to September 14, 2013, inclusive.
Lot codes 122 to 138 are affected by this recall.
Some product packages may not bear a lot code or indicate that the cheese was made with raw milk. These products were also sold clerk-served from deli counters with or without a label or coding. Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased the affected product are advised to contact their retailer.
There have been reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
The manufacturer, Gort's Gouda Cheese Farm, Salmon Arm, BC is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

Kansas Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Due To Possible E. coli O157:H7 Contamination

WASHINGTON, July 31, 2013 – National Beef Packing Company, a Liberal, Kan., firm, is recalling approximately 50,100 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The following products are subject to recall:
  • 10 lb. chub of “National Beef” 93/ 7 Fine Ground Beef, Product Code 0707
  • 10 lb. chub of “NatureSource” 80/20 Fine Ground Chuck, Product Code 7031
  • 10 lb. chub of “NatureSource” 85/15 Fine Ground Beef, Product Code 7054
  • 10 lb. chub of “NatureSource” 90/10 Fine Ground Beef, Product Code 7344
  • 10 lb. chub of “NatureSource” 93/ 7 Fine Ground Beef, Product Code 7004
  • 10 lb. chub of “NatureWell 80/20 Fine Ground Chuck, Product Code 7484
  • 10 lb. chub of “NatureWell” 85/15 Fine Ground Beef, Product Code 7454
  • 10 lb. chub of “NatureWell” 90/10 Fine Ground Sirloin, Product Code 7577

All these products bear the establishment number “EST. 208A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced on July 18, 2013 and were shipped in 40 to 60 pound cases to retailers, wholesalers, and food service distributors nationwide.
The problem was discovered through routine FSIS monitoring which confirmed a positive result for E.coli O157:H7. An investigation determined National Beef Packing Co. was the sole supplier of the source materials used to produce the positive product. FSIS and the company have received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products.  Individuals concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers (including restaurants) of the recall and to ensure that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at: http://www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure. The very young, seniors and persons with weak immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illness.
FSIS advises all consumers to safely prepare their raw meat products, including fresh and frozen, and only consume ground beef that has been cooked to a temperature of 160° F. The only way to confirm that ground beef is cooked to a temperature high enough to kill harmful bacteria is to use a food thermometer that measures internal temperature.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - July 2, 2013 - The Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) advises consumers not to eat Mediterranean Olives: Calcidica Sweet (Brand: Bel Frantoio) sold at any Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL) stores. OSJL is voluntarily recalling the product after HEALTH staff discovered that these products were not handled appropriately to prevent production of the toxin that causes botulism.
Mediterranean Olives: Calcidica Sweet, produced by Bel Frantoio and packaged in 34-oz. plastic containers, were sold in OSJL stores in New York and throughout the Northeast (Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine). This product is being voluntarily recalled because it is labeled “Keep Refrigerated,” but was sold at room temperature, making it susceptible to contamination with Clostridium botulinum.
Other olive products produced by Bel Frantoio that were sold at Ocean State Job Lot, as well as other brands of olives, do not currently pose a safety issue. This recall applies only to this product sold at Ocean State Job Lot.
This product sold elsewhere, where refrigerated, is safe for consumption.
Ingestion of botulinum toxin from improperly stored foods can lead to serious illness and death.
Anyone who has eaten this product and has experienced abdominal cramps; difficulty breathing, speaking or swallowing; double vision; muscle weakness; muscle aches; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; or fever should contact their healthcare provider immediately for evaluation and treatment. The young, elderly, immune-compromised, and pregnant women are especially susceptible to foodborne illness.
No illnesses associated with this recall have been reported at this time.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 3, 2013 – WATERLOO, WI - Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese Company is issuing a voluntary recall for three specialty cheese products while regulatory agencies continue a multi-state investigation of Listeria monocytogenes. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The products recalled are:
  • Les Frères (LF225 2/2.5#) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in white plastic with a green and gold label.
  • Petit Frère (PF88 8/8 oz) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in small round wooden boxes.
  • Petit Frère with Truffles (PF88T 8/8 oz) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in small round wooden boxes.
These products were distributed nationwide through retail and foodservice outlets as well as by mail orders.
Crave Brothers was informed by regulatory agencies of an ongoing investigation related to potential health risks associated with Listeria monocytogenes. The company immediately ceased the production and distribution of the products.
"We are cooperating with the regulatory agencies' ongoing investigation of the cause of the potential health risks," said George Crave, president.
Consumers who have purchased any of these products are urged not to consume them. They can return the cheese to the place of purchase for a full refund or discard it. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 920-478-4887, Monday-Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
