2012 Audi A6
Volkswagen, the parent company of Audi, is recalling certain 2012 Audi A6 luxury sedans for a defect in the head-curtain airbag.
A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site lists the number of affected vehicles at 317. Affected vehicles were manufactured from April 8, 2011 through May 26, 2011.
At issue is a problem with the stitching process of the curtain airbag, specifically, where the seam of the airbag may not be properly stitched. In the event of a crash, the head-curtain airbag may not deploy, thus not being able to protect the occupant and increase the risk of injury. Company documents indicate that there was a production problem in the stitching process of the head-curtain airbag cushion on one production day.
Volkswagen will notify owners of the 317 affected A6 sedans and dealers will replace the left and/or right curtain airbag free of charge. The safety recall campaign is expected to begin during January 2012.
In the meantime, owners of 2012 Audi A6 luxury sedans with any questions or concerns may contact Volkswagen at 1-800-822-8987. Reference the Volkswagen safety recall number 6915/K4.
Alternatively, owners of vehicles involved in the campaign may contact the NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to http://www.safercar.gov. Reference the NHTSA campaign ID No. 11V580000.
