2012 Ford Explorer2011-2012 Nissan Altima: Recall Alert
Nissan is recalling some 2011-2012 Altima sedans over concerns that a front suspension bolt may have been improperly tightened. According to the Detroit News, the recall involves some 20,000 Altimas.
A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Web site says the recall involves model year 2011-2012 Nissan Altima sedans manufactured from April 25, 2011, through June 10, 2011, at the Canton, Mississippi, plant.The NHTSA notice states that the transverse link bolt may not have been torque to the proper specification. Such a condition could cause the bolt to become loose while the vehicle is being driven and create vibration and a rattling noise. If the bolt were to come out completely, the driver could have difficulty controlling the vehicle’s direction, which could result in a crash.
The Detroit News said Nissan first discovered the defect on June 6 when it investigated a rattle in the front suspension. The automaker notified dealers of a planned recall July 18. Dealers are reportedly checking the bolts on all new vehicles in stock before selling them.
For vehicles affected by the recall, Nissan will replace the transverse link bolts and nuts and tighten them to the proper torque specification, free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin August 1.
