Hazard: The threaded end of the rack rod ball joint can break and the ball joint can become displaced, causing the driver to lose steering control. This can result in a crash.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm is aware of 71 reports of the ball joint breaking, 13 of which resulted in the ball joint displacing. No injuries have been reported.

2012 Audi A6: Recall-Alert

2012 Audi A6

Volkswagen, the parent company of Audi, is recalling certain 2012 Audi A6 luxury sedans for a defect in the head-curtain airbag.

A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site lists the number of affected vehicles at 317. Affected vehicles were manufactured from April 8, 2011 through May 26, 2011.

At issue is a problem with the stitching process of the curtain airbag, specifically, where the seam of the airbag may not be properly stitched. In the event of a crash, the head-curtain airbag may not deploy, thus not being able to protect the occupant and increase the risk of injury. Company documents indicate that there was a production problem in the stitching process of the head-curtain airbag cushion on one production day.

Volkswagen will notify owners of the 317 affected A6 sedans and dealers will replace the left and/or right curtain airbag free of charge. The safety recall campaign is expected to begin during January 2012.

2010-2011 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan: Recall Alert

Ford is conducting a voluntary safety recall on certain 2010-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans for a possible wheel defect that may result in wheels falling off.

A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site puts the number of potential affected units at 128,616 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles equipped with 17-inch steel wheels. Affected vehicles were built from April 1, 2009 through April 30, 2009 and from December 1, 2009 through November 13, 2010 at a Ford plant in Hermosillo, Mexico.

The NHTSA notice says that the wheel studs may fracture, which could potentially cause the wheel to separate from the vehicle. The consequence of this condition is that, while driving, multiple stud fractures could occur at the wheel location and the driver could experience vehicle vibration and/or wheel separation. This increases the risk of a crash.

Documentation from Ford indicates that vehicles equipped with alloy wheels are not affected. The company said it was aware of one front wheel separation and five rear wheel separations that may be attributable to the defect condition.

What Ford will do

Ford will notify owners of affected vehicles by mail and dealers will inspect the rear brake disc surface for flatness and will replace discs, as necessary, at no charge to owners. In addition, dealers will replace the wheel lug nuts on all four wheels. The safety recall campaign is expected to begin on or about January 24, 2012.

Chicken recall reaches South Carolina : News : MidlandsConnect.com

WASHINGTON (AP) -- House of Raeford is recalling more than 4,100 pounds of cooked chicken breasts which may be contaminated with a bacteria.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Friday that the chicken may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can lead to listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease.

The products subject to recall are 18 to 22-pound boxes containing two 9 to 11-pound "BONELESS OVEN ROASTED CHICKEN BREAST." They carry the establishment number "P-239A" inside the USDA inspection mark along with a product code of "94268" and a package date of "1270" (Sept. 27, 2011).

The chicken was shipped to delicatessens and food service institutions for further processing in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. or. So far, there have been no reports of illness.

Remedy: Children should stop wearing the recalled sleepwear immediately and consumers should return it to the retailer where the product was purchased for a refund, exchange or store credit.

Nautilus Recalls Schwinn Elliptical Exercise Equipment Due to Fall Hazard

Hazard: The foot plates can detach from the machine during use, posing a fall hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Nautilus has received nine reports of foot plates detaching or breaking during use. One incident resulted in a consumer striking his knee.

Description: Elliptical exercise trainer equipment sold under the model name Schwinn 460. The machine is 73 inches tall and 54 inches long. It is made of gray anodized aluminum with two moving and two fixed handlebars all with black rubberized padding. The fixed handlebars have heart rate sensors on both sides. The machine has a touch-screen console, an adjustable fan and an orange-colored, oversized water bottle holder. A medallion with the Schwinn logo is on the bottom right side of the base of the machine.

Sold at: Nautilus.com, Amazon.com, Dick's Sporting Goods, AAFES, specialty fitness retailers and specialty sporting goods stores nationwide between July 2008 and May 2011 for about $1,000.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled models immediately and contact Nautilus for a free repair kit that includes an extended warranty.

The NHTSA notice says that the circuit board’s incorrect position on the EPS control unit may cause additional stress on the solder of the terminal to the circuit board. This may result in the cracking and complete separation of the solder from the circuit board.

When the circuit board fails, the power steering assist feature will cease to function. This makes steering more difficult and increases the risk of a crash.

Nissan will notify owners of affected vehicles to bring them to Nissan dealers, who will inspect and replace the EPS control unit, if necessary, at no charge. The Nissan safety recall campaign is expected to begin in December 2011.

Toyota is recalling certain 2011-2012 model year Toyota Sienna minivans because of an incorrect tire and load information placard.

A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site lists the potential number of affected vehicles at 210,000. Documentation from Toyota to NHTSA indicates that not all of the 2011-2012 Siennas involved in the safety recall were sold in the U.S. Affected vehicles were built from January 24, 2010 through a date to be determined.

The NHTSA notice indicates that the affected vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) Number 110, “Tire Selections and Rims,” by not displaying the correct vehicle capacity rate as the rated load for the combination of cargo and occupants.

Such incorrect information could lead to tire overloading, possibly causing subsequent tire failure, which could increase the risk of a crash.

The recall was prompted by a recent NHTSA FMVSS 110 test of a 2011 Toyota Sienna in which the vehicle did not meet the standard. The agency notified Toyota on November 4 of the noncompliance.

Toyota will mail out a corrected placard to owners of affected vehicles along with revised owner’s manual information. Although no remedy plan or owner notification schedule has yet been provided, owners of 2011-2012 Toyota Sienna minivans with any questions or concerns may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

Description: The black and orange plastic flashlight is 6 � inches long and has pumpkins, bats, witches, haunted houses and cats on the handle. The flashlights come with six different plastic lenses that attach to the flashlight to project various images, including a pumpkin, bat, witch, haunted house and cat. The flashlights use two AA batteries. �Flomo,� �HW189� and UPC 677916518266 are printed on the packaging.

Sold at: Discount stores in California, Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Utah from August 2010 through October 2011 for about $1.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled flashlights, remove and properly discard the batteries and return the flashlights to the store where purchased for a full refund.
