The Pittsburgh-based grocery chain announced the recall on its website Oct. 13. The recalled lettuce, from River Ranch Fresh Foods LLC in Salinas, Calif., is packaged in 8-ounce bags. It has a use by date of Oct. 14 and the UCP code 3003430195. Calls to River Ranch were not immediately returned on Oct. 13.
Details of the recall are included in the FDA's notice, which was e-mailed to alert subscribers with an issue time of 11 p.m. Eastern time on Oct. 13.
No illnesses had been reported as of Oct. 12. The recalled lettuce was pulled from store shelves,

Giant Eagle Inc. recalled these 8-ounce bags of shredded iceberg lettuce from River Ranch Fresh Foods, Salinas, Calif., after a random test by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found possible listeria contamination.
Deli sandwich trays included in the recall are:
• Giant Eagle Large Italian Sandwich Ring (UPC 23755100000);
• Giant Eagle Mini Italian Sandwich Ring (UPC 24755500000);
• Giant Eagle Large New York Sandwich Ring (UPC 22755100000);
